Today, India celebrates its 69th Republic Day. This day marks the enactment of Constitution of India. We celebrate this day with lots of enthusiasm and patriotism. With the parade that holds every year at Rajpath in the capital (New Delhi), there is a feeling of pride and respect for the nation in every Indian’s heart. Our constitution is the longest constitution in the world with 448 articles in 22 parts, 12 schedules and 97 amendments.
Our constitution has some of the best features like liberty, equality and fraternity which have been taken from the French constitution and the 5-year plan taken from USSR constitution.
To write the constitution, an assembly gathered for 166 days which later on extended to 2 years, 11 months and 18 days.
Our constitution is handwritten in 2 languages- Hindi and English and is preserved in helium filled cases in the Parliament of India.
The first ever Republic Day was held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and 15,000 civilians attended it.
President Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia was the first International chief guest to attend Republic Day celebration in India.
